This four-week international camp was the original CISV program, and is still its flagship program. Its main aims are to help participants learn to understand and appreciate people of different cultures, and to provide both an experience in active coexistence and the opportunity for creative participation in the decision-making process. A multi-lingual camp, the Village features a mix of educational, cultural and sporting activities which emphasize cooperative global and intercultural living. Each Village hosts delegations from
ten or twelve countries, and each delegation consists of two girls and two boys, all eleven years of age, and an adult leader. Five staff and six Junior Counselors, aged 16 -17 also help to run the Village. Each Village lasts twenty-eight days.

As more and more eleven-year-olds returned from Villages, fired with enthusiasm about their experiences, other young people, often those who had been unable to attend a Village, felt that they too would like to have their own Village-type experience. After a good deal of debate, it was decided to hold a number of experimental Summer Camps, and these proved so successful that the Summer Camp was finally approved as an official program in 1995.
Aimed at slightly older children than the Village, the Summer Camp encourages participants to take initiatives towards leadership and responsibility for program planning. In addition to promoting the ClSV philosophy, each Camp focuses on a specific educational theme, aiming to overcome prejudices, build self-confidence and stimulate critical thinking, through activities and discussion Delegations from six or nine different countries consist of either four or six young people plus an adult leader. The duration of each camp is three weeks, and the age range of the young people is 13 - 16. Single sex Summer Camps are possible to accommodate cultural sensitivity regarding mixed camps for teens.

The Forli, Italy Interchange will be completed
in the summer of 2010, with consecutive three-week visits to
each country. Dates have not been finalized but our delegation
has requested to be traveling to Italy June 26 – July 17 and
hosting the Italian delegation July 24 – August 14. These dates
are subject to change.
Our chapter is seeking boy and girl delegates ages 13 & 14 to be
a part of this great travel opportunity. Delegates’ birthdays
must fall between June 1, 1995 and August 31, 1997. We are also
looking for applicants for the adult leader position
The enthusiasm of returning delegates from the early Villages and the subsequent formation of local Chapters and Junior Branches, produced a nucleus of young people, friends and relations, eager for their own international ClSV experience, and thus, in 1962, the Interchange was born. This was a group exchange with individuals staying with carefully matched partners, within a family setting. The first group of young people, ranging in age from twelve to nineteen, traveled from Hamburg to Newcastle, to stay in families there. Some of them were meeting up with friends they had made at Villages, some were brothers or sisters and some were school friends. The whole group then traveled back to Hamburg for the second phase. The local Chapters undertook responsibility for the organization and realization of the overall activity, which must have been a great success, since the same Chapters conducted another only three years later. In 1981, Interchange was recognized as an official program.
The Interchange program encourages a deeper understanding of another culture by enabling young people to live as family members. Group activities involving all participants are also a vital component of Interchange, and these help to foster individual and group attitudes consistent with the ClSV philosophy. Although it offers a very different approach from a camp model, Interchange is based on the same educational principles. By living as family members, participants are able to gain an understanding of people of another culture, and are encouraged to incorporate this experience into the daily lives of themselves and their families. Interchanges take place either during a single year or over two years, depending on the distance of the travel involved, and last for between two and four weeks for each of the two phases. Each Interchange involves delegations from two International Chapters, of six to twelve young people, ranging in age from 12 - 15, plus adult leaders. Single sex Interchanges are possible, to accommodate specific cultural requirements.

By 1956, there existed a growing number of young people who had had a taste of the CISV experience and who wanted to try to re-live some of it on a future occasion. Because of the deep and lasting friendships forged during Villages, participants naturally felt that they would like to meet together again, and the first "reunion" camps were held in the late 1950s. Eventually, these camps attracted and were opened to young people who had no previous Village experience. Seminar Camps are now an educational program in their own right, which provide the first international CISV experience for a significant percentage of participants.
The Seminar Camp is an intensive program, designed for an older age group. It is actively conducted by the participants, who are encouraged to discover and form opinions about individual, international and intercultural matters, to examine their own motives and the behavior of themselves and others, to appreciate the responsibilities involved in group living, and to gain practical experience in positive conflict resolution. The Seminar Camp fosters interest in the world as a whole, and develops a sense of responsibility for its peaceful survival. A local and international staff of five act as resource personnel and Chapter liaisons for the participants. The thirty selected young people of ages ranging from 17 18 travel independently to participate in the three-week camp.

Junior Counselors, like adult leaders, are carefully selected and trained. They too need a love for working with children and a belief in the philosophy of CISV. They have an important function in the Village Program being able to relate to both the adults and the children. Although Junior Counselors who have been involved in other CISV Programs will have an advantage, that is not a prerequisite.
