International People's Project (IPP) For Young Adults Ages 19+CISVers had long felt that they wanted to give something of themselves back to the community and the environment, and to make some practical contribution in terms of time and work, Such an opportunity was created at the first experimental IPP, at Bad Neuheim in Germany, in 1997, There, participants, together with local community workers, restored a small wetland area, and they also investigated local methods of rubbish collection and recycling practices, The experiment has proved a great success, and IPP was approved as CISV's newest official activity in 2000. In keeping with the goals of the organization, the IPP provides young adults, aged nineteen and over, with a means of learning while at the same time actively participating in service to the community. In partnership with local institutions, delegates participate in hands-on work involving a specific theme or project, such as nature conservation or working with immigrants. Prior to the work period which lasts for two or three weeks, delegates also research thematic issues in their own countries, and lead educational activities based on these subjects. Additional training and seminars relating to project requirements may be provided by the partner organization or other experts or professionals in the field. AS with all ClSV activities, the focus is on education. Through the carrying out of a practical project, participants are able to learn at first hand about the particular topic. The diversity of projects means that CISV can work with a large variety of organizations and attract a wide range of participants. The size of the working group, which is drawn from a number of countries, is typically of the order of twenty-five, including a number of staff. |
